GPS Trail Map 1.2.2

This application offers the capability to convert any traditional trail map into a functional GPS-enabled map, allowing users to track their location dynamically while navigating. The conversion process involves adding at least two geo-location “pins” to the map during the trail walk. Incorporating a greater number of pins enhances the precision of the GPS Trail Map and helps rectify potential inaccuracies originating from the original artistic depiction of the trail.

Sources for creating new GPS Trail Maps are diverse, including images captured via an iPhone camera, maps from the Photo App, or any website image or PDF. Once established, these GPS-enabled maps can be stored on a global map and accessed collectively by all users of the platform, indicating an expanding repository of functional GPS Trail Maps available worldwide.

Operationally, the application requires the purchase of an affordable Token to activate real-time location tracking on a GPS Trail Map. Each Token provides a 12-hour period of location updates following activation. The app initially includes five free Tokens, with options to purchase additional sets of ten Tokens through in-app purchases.

The underlying positioning algorithm employs a least squares fitting approach to align and scale the map according to GPS coordinates, based on the geo-location pins placed during map creation. The method projects the user’s current GPS position onto the map by weighting nearby pins with an inverse cubic function of the distance, 1/(r+∆)^3, enhancing positional accuracy.
